Prof. David G. Michelson leads the Radio Science Lab at UBC and serves as Director of both the AURORA Connected Vehicle Testbed and the Marine Systems Initiative. He began his career as a member of a joint team from AT&T Wireless Services, and AT&T Labs-Research that developed propagation and channel models for next-generation and fixed wireless systems. Since joining UBC in 2003, his research has focused on wireless channels and systems, intelligent transportation, and the history of technology. In 2004, Prof. Michelson served on a Defence Science Advisory Panel on Cognitive Radio. Since 2019, he has participated in the annual RCN Naval Architecture Conference. In 2022, he served as the academic lead for the RCN Canadian Students at Sea program. He is a member of both AFCEA and the Association of Old Crows.

Prof. Michelson serves as the President of the Canadian National Committee of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI), Chair of the URSI-ITU Inter-Union Working Group, Chair of the IEEE Standards Association’s Mobile Radio Standards Committee, member of the Steering Committee of the NIST-sponsored NextG Channel Model Alliance, and member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society. At UBC, he currently serves as the IEEE Student Branch Counsellor and faculty advisor to the student team developing the Aleasat cubesat.  Licensed as VA7DM, he is an accredited amateur radio examiner and holds the club license for amateur radio station VE7ECE..
