UBC IEEE Student Branch wins Darrel Chong Student Activity Award for their International Field Trip

Every year in May, the IEEE Student Branch - UBC Chapter organizes a field trip overseas to visit exciting engineering schools, research institutions and companies. Over the years the club has taken students to some of the most advanced companies around the world. Their 2015 trip, a whirlwind tour of South Korea, won The Darrel Chong Student Activity Award with Gold standing.

Recent UBC Graduate Receives Best Paper Award at Prestigious Computer Conference

Nithya Narayanamurthy received an award for her paper describing a unique way of reducing computing errors at the European Dependable Computing Conference this week. Narayanamurthy developed her research while completing her Masters in Applied Science degree in Professor Pattabiraman’s laboratory in 2015, and is currently working at Oracle Labs.

Robotic Helicopters from the Electrical Engineering Design Studio

Each response to this design challenge is unique. Students in the Electrical Design Studio are designing, fabricating and testing a drone prototype that can lift, rotate 180°and land. In their third year, ECE students work on an engineering design that integrates all of the engineering skills they have learned to that point in their degree. The design studio also enables students to develop new skills in project management and teamwork.  The teams start with:

Robots, Giant Pianos and Computerized Bedsheets

UBC students take on challenges from Vancouver companies On April 7th, please join electrical and computer engineering students in celebrating the culmination of a year of hard work and creativity. This event marks the finale of the Capstone Design Course which gives  teams of 4th year students the chance to work directly with industry, applying their knowledge and innovation to design, build and test solutions for their clients. The Capstone Design Celebration is a great way to meet our students and see how they solve real-world problems.
