Tayler Hetherington is a Ph.D candidate in Computer Engineering, specializing in Computer Architecture, at The University of British Columbia under the supervision of Dr. Tor M. Aamodt. He received his Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Engineering, Software Option, from The University of British Columbia in 2011 and transferred from the MASc program to the Ph.D program in May 2013. His current research interests include many-core accelerator architectures, such as graphics processing units (GPUs), and heterogeneous multi-core architectures; both from a hardware a systems software perspective. His specific research focus is on the co-design of hardware and software for many-core architectures as a means to improve energy efficiency in data centers. He received the NSERC CGS-D3 and CGS-M during his Ph.D and MASc respectively. In his graduating year of the BASc program, he received the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Gold Medal in Engineering award and the PMC-Sierra Founders Award in Electrical and Computer Engineering. During the summers of his first and second year of the BASc program, he interned at a Software Engineering position at USCO Japan.
Outside of work, he is involved with many sports - playing hockey and lacrosse competitively along with recreational snowboarding, sailing, and other sports - and music, where he has played drums with a band for many events.
