Dr. Purang Abolmaesumi is a Canada Research Chair, Tier II, in Biomedical Engineering, and an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the University of British Columbia.

His research is in the area of Biomedical Engineering, with emphasis on computer-assisted surgery, image-guided therapy and medical image analysis.

Dr. Abolmaesumi is a co-director of the Robotics and Control Laboratory with Professors Salcudean, Rohling and Lawrence. The laboratory has strong ties with Vancouver General Hospital and BC Children's and Women's Hospitals. Dr. Abolmaesumi runs an inter-disciplinary collaborative research group that brings together expertise in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Surgery, Radiology, and Computer Science, within Vancouver and worldwide.
