I am currently working with Stereoscopic (3D) Video. In particular, I am interested in finding out what parameters are needed in order to provide high Quality of Experience (QoE) to viewers of 3D content. I am trying to look at this problem from the point of view of an engineer, a movie-lover, and a stereographer. I have also done some work on High Dynamic-Range (HDR) Video.
I enjoy making learning fun and easy. I have a six-year teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I like my courses to be student-centered as opposed to having the instructor as the only active individual in the classroom. This is the feedback I got from the students that took my last course (EECE541 - Multimedia Systems).
Additionally, I have worked on other topics related to the field of digital signal processing: Blind Signal Separation (Master's degree @ McMaster University) and Digital Image and Video Watermarking (PhD degree @ The University of British Columbia).
September 2011
Our paper "Subjective Study on Asymmetric Stereoscopic Video with Low-pass Filtered Slices" has been accepted to the International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communication (ICNC) 2012 in Maui, Hawaii.
August 2011
I gave a talk at Vancouver SkeptiCamp. The title of my presentation: "Fighting Criminals with a Divining Rod: The GT200 and the Mexican Government." You can see the slides here.
March 2011
I will
be the first speaker at UBC's Celebrate
Research Week Postdoctoral
Showcase. More info follows:
Date: March 8th, 2011
Time: 10 AM
Location: St. John’s College Social Lounge – 2111 Lower Mall
January 2011
I attended the Consumer Electronics Show and the International Conference on Consumer Electronics in Las Vegas, USA. I saw lots of cool new products and met some wonderful people. I also presented our paper "Quality of Experience of Stereoscopic Content on Displays of Different Sizes: A Comprehensive Subjective Evaluation." I got great feedback.
December 2010
My colleague, Di Xu, presented our paper "Guidelines for Capturing High Quality Stereoscopic Content Based on a Systematic Subjective Evaluation" at the IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems, ICECS 2010, Athens, Greece
October 2010
I was interviewed for this article "3D and the Internet" (you can read my quote near the end).
