Tom-Tom at 15 months

OK the little guy is a friggin' genius (I should admit that the picture was taken a couple of months ago).

Thomas at four months

So Thomas is now four months old (and a half). He's bright and interested in the world, and as a result perhaps easily bored. Boy he's a real handful. Put that easily bored together with ravenous (he's probably 17 pounds now), light sleeping and more and more frustrated with his lack of mobility and you've got a recipe for very tired parents and a really frustrated Mum. That said, he's a real joy when he's in a good mood. He laughs easily and boy, when he gets going is hard to resist. Tiring, strung out fun...

Mysterious Packages in the Mail

Not having done this for long, I can be a bit surprised at the simple power of weblogging.

This morning, I received a small package in my office mail. It was labelled as a gift from the US (I had that from the customs declaration before I opened it), and a book at that. Noting that it was addressed to Thomas, c/o me, I curiously opened it. A beautiful new copy of "Monty Goes South", a favourite children's book. It was labelled as coming from Marc Tetro, so I assumed that someone who knew that our copy had been damaged had sent it.

Maxwell

For those of you who haven't seen him recently (or ever I suppose), here are a couple of recent pictures of Maxwell, our number one son. He's 5-1/2 now, so we're pretty proud of him as he rides his bike without training wheels,

and shows off his skills with the Rush Hour puzzle game that he got for Christmas.

Thomas at 2 weeks

As of today, Thomas (yes, we have named him "Thomas Cooper Harold Something") is 8lbs 2oz, thus demonstrating his "thriving" status. He has gotten substantially more alert and aware in the last couple of days, staring and smiling and laughing in his sleep.

New Life

At 12:25pm on Friday November 14, my wife Alison gave birth to our second son. It was not a particularly easy delivery (finishing with a little pulling to accompany the pushing) but the results were amazing. One tiny perfect little thing later we felt exhausted and elated.

And a little later... This is what Thomas looked like on Day 2...

Maxwell's Math etc.

Maxwell's getting just a little bit scary at the moment. We went for a walk this evening. Just a little stroll after dinner down to Kits Coffee (he has to go back outside and read the sign before he'll trust that we told him the right name of the place) for a cuppa and some dessert.

So, we're sitting there quietly and Maxwell says to me "Daddy, how many numbers from minus-ten to ten?" I play along without quite getting it and say "Twenty-one." He responds, "Right because ten plus ten is twenty plus one more for the zero." "How did you learn that?" "I just figured it out right now!"

Aarrgh. He's five-and-a-half. Alison's response was clear enough. "As of right now, I've been left behind".

He's become a little obsessed with the Rush Hour game (there is also a little Java online version). For a while it was the Rush Hour Jr. version at daycare and I thought that he was only interested in working at it from the solution side of the cards (he's pretty keen on following directions). He's been bugging me to buy him the Rush Hour Jr. game for about two weeks now. But then I found the online game and was playing it at home when he caught me and wanted to play. He easily solved a couple of beginner puzzles, moved on to intermediate, advanced and then actually managed two of the expert layouts. He's stopped asking for the Rush Hour Jr. game. He now wants the regular one.
