Research Interests

My research is in the area of Biomedical Engineering. Specifically, I am interested in the extraction of relevant information from the 3D medical images by developing state of the art image segmentation, registration and image enhancement methods for image guided surgery and therapy applications. The main objective of my research is to study and model medical procedures and introduce advanced computer integrated solutions to improve their quality, efficiency, and safety.

About Me

Since September 2010, I am a post-doctoral research fellow with the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Before joining the department of Orthopaedics I was a post-doctoral fellow with the Department of Mechnical Engineering at the University of British Columbia. During this period I am working under the supervision of professors Purang Abolmaesumi and David Wilson. I also closely collaborate with Prof. Robert Rohling and Prof Michael Hunt. My clinical collaborators are Dr. Michael Gilbart, Dr. Pierre Guy.

I received my PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada (April, 2010). My supervisors were Dr. Rafeef Abugharbieh, Dr. Antony Hodgson, and Dr. Robert Rohling. Prior to coming to Canada to start my PhD I was working as a research scientist at the Center for Satellite Communication and Remote Sensing, Istanbul, Turkey (2001-2005). During that time I was also a graduate student in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Istanbul Technical University, Turkey. I obtained my M.Sc. (2004) and B.Sc.(2001) degrees in Electrical Engineering, from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey.
