Abstract | This paper discusses the concept and work in progress to develop a computer-based power system simulator that can mimic as close as possible the behaviour of an actual power system. OVNI, for Object Virtual Network Integrator, can run continuously and produce at each (discrete) time instant the correct voltages and currents in the power system. The solution at each time step has to be produced fast enough to reproduce the bandwidth of the physical phenomena being simulated (e.g., 50 mu s for fast transients, or 1 ms for transient stability). OVNI is being implemented using a network of off-the-shelf Pentium Pro 200 MHz workstations. |
