Abstract

The discrete wavelet transform provides a numerically efficient method for decomposing basis weight and moisture data into multi-resolution components carrying frequency-related information. `Wavelet decomposition allows noise filtering without loss off signal detail. Wavelet-packet analysis has shown to give a more accurate diagnostic assessment of controller performance. An analysis of the improved quality and reduced waste that can result from optimized roll cutting based on wavelet-packet analysis will also be given.
