With the fall semester quickly approaching, the ECE team wants to share 13 key resources that will be essential to your learning this fall. This list contains a mix of software, initiatives, activities, and UBC services that can help facilitate your remote learning experience.
Lab Kits
This coming fall semester, ECE will be providing lab kits to allow you to take lab-based courses from home. These will be shipped to you at no extra cost, and TAs will be ready to support you every step of the way.
Note that you will need to place an order for the lab kits from ECE, so look to place your order early to be safe! The time it takes the ship is dependent on a variety of factors, and ECE has special procedures ready for students studying outside of North America.

Get involved with ECE!
With the fall semester going remote, getting involved with the ECE community is going to be more important than ever. There are tons of ways to get involved with ECE; here we will shed light on two UBC initiatives.
If you are looking to apply what you have learned in lectures in the real world, try seeing if there is a UBC design team that matches your interests. Check them out here.
Looking to build your leadership skills? Volunteer on the ECESS, Engineering Undergraduate Society (EUS), or the ECEGSA, if you are a graduate student! There is a ton of roles involving all kinds of different work. Getting involved is a great way to give back.
Microsoft Teams – 20 GB (link)
With the switch to remote learning, you likely have already encountered Microsoft Teams, Slack, or a similar platform for team collaboration. If not, there is a lot to be excited about: Teams integrates video and text messaging for your class or project group, provides a suite of project management tools, supports code snippet sharing, and has file storage capabilities—UBC has 20 GB available for all students. UBC wide access begins August 17th, 2020.
One Drive – 1TB (link)
Supporting Microsoft Teams, UBC is also adopting One Drive. With 1 TB of a storage available for each student at UBC, you will be able manage your personal files and individual projects with ease. One Drive integrates directly into Teams, so it will be easy to share PowerPoint presentations or Word documents directly with your team. Everything is synced on the cloud, so you can access your files seamlessly across devices.
Laptop loan and bursary program
To ensure an equitable remote learning experience, Enrolment Services has a laptop loan and technology bursary program. Awards are granted on a per person basis. For more information please contact Enrolment Services Advisors.
